    Always Thinking
    Guest

Today I’ve been having some interesting thoughts, or at least they were interesting to me. This will probably be all over the place and idk where the thoughts lead, they are just ponderings and may not even be interesting.

One thought being: Religion is opinion. It seems like most people believe what feels right to them. Even in the church, there are always things that are harder for someone to believe because it doesn’t sit right or they’ve just never gained a testimony of it. Even answers to prayers are often influenced by our own biases or opinions on the matter. It also seems like whatever you do with religion, everyone has their own opinions of you. If you stay in the LDS church, people outside the church think you’re ignorant and people in the church think you’re making the best decision. If you leave the church, you get praised by the people outside but the people still in the church see you as someone who has been misled, Satan got ahold of you, or you left for a dumb reason. So they basically think you were ignorant too if you leave. Everyone has their own opinions on religion and people usually grab onto the religion or belief that feels best to them.

My other thought: I don’t think opinions are ever completely ours. Our opinion seems to always be a combination of other people’s opinions that we grabbed from until they fit what felt right to us. Then that becomes our opinion. I don’t know how you could get an idea that didn’t come from another person in some form and when you heard it you agreed and decided that was your opinion too, or we mold their idea slightly to fit what feels comfortable to us.

what you seem to be saying is that we are naturally social and tribal creatures. That we are heavily influenced by our environments and that our choices will place us into a series of “in” groups vs. the “out” groups.

    Does that sound correct?

    I agree with that.
