The past month has been a wringer for me. PR departments, Mormon Women Stand/Sit/Walk/Talk – you name it. The storm blew through, a final cloud burst maybe on its way – but it’s time to build. Build what? Life.

It’s summer for most of us on this board, the days are longer, the yellow orb light stretches farther and it’s time to build. Don’t worry about building Mormonism, it will ebb and flow no matter what we do. Don’t worry if you aren’t a believer – athiests and agnostics can build. Everyone can.

By build – I mean create, improve, reconnect, upgrade, face lift, embrace, attempt, try, dust off. Write poetry, sing loud and happy in the car as you drive, ride your bike, grab a family member and take a hike looking for caterpillars. Practice a musical instrument, listen to great music that gets your happy button going, grow a garden, teach your dog some new tricks. Roast marshmallows with your kids, bake cookies for the neighbor, take pictures of your town and put them online. Build.

Build you, build home, build friends, build family, build memories and monuments. No one can take building away from you.

I am on my way, won’t you join me?

Yept — it’s been a hard week and I’ve spent more time thinking and writing about Mormonism than it deserves right now. I resolve to fix up my house, invest more time in my son, do some more community service work, and get some projects finished and back on track.

I may do you one better, I’ll try to post pictures of me doing some of that. :D

    Absolutely. Well said.

Sometimes, breaking something apart is necessary – but it if isn’t followed by building, all that is left is brokenness.

You’ve made my day Sis mom3. Words to live by.

    Thank you.

Yes, I’m there! Building positive experiences of sharing is all of the best of life has to offer. What ever life takes here and at the end or after, it will be well with that. Thank you.

The summer is almost over. It really snuck out from under me this year. Over before it really began. Returning and reporting:

    1) I was interested in getting a 7-string, or better yet, baritone guitar but I couldn’t really justify buying another guitar. I finally took a step back and decided to risk a $4 approach by experimenting with changing up string gauges. It worked like a champ. Now I’ve got one guitar that I can tune down to B-E-A-D-F♯-B without degrading string tension to the point of a loss in sound quality or ability to play. I finally got to learn a few songs that I’ve been meaning to learn for a while now.

    2) I’ve been a bit hamstrung by back pain (and a bit lazy) this summer but I’ve gone out enough to maintain most of my mountain unicycling skills. No real progress in learning new skills but I’ve at least maintained most of what I’ve gained thus far. Summer is my slow period anyway, the sport generates a lot of body heat and the warm, humid summers drain me quickly. I come alive more in the autumn.

I said I’d try to post pictures but I’m not one to take very many. If I’m not lone wolfing it while out uniing I’m too busy having fun to take out time to take pictures. Lucky you, I’m not very photogenic. ;)

Thanks Nibbler for pulling this back up. I have been busy building and had forgotten I even started this. Here is what I wrought this summer.

    * 2 party/hang outs for my teenage son and his friends

*1 good-bye party for a friend leaving the theater group my kids are a part of

    * Restructuring and replanting our front yard. It turned out great.

    * Helped my son get his drivers permit

*Worked on a book I am writing

*Planned and hosted a successful 3 day family reunion

    * Took 2 different beach trips with my family – Kind of split the family so it ended up being 2

*Finishing the preparation for our County Food Bank Drive

Add in piano lessons, a few backyard BBQ’s, a 75th and 51st birthday, a zoo trip and that is what I built this summer.

I can’t wait to hear what everyone else built.
