Ray responded to my introduction in which I mentioned my Sacrament Meeting talk of last week. In it I addressed issues relating to our young women that concern me. He asked me to share. It’s been posted in FMH, for any interested.

What an amazing talk! Thanks for the link.

Everyone, read the talk. Seriously, one of the best Sac Mtg talks I’ve ever read. Stunning, really.

I was just asking on another post for some more info on this talk and here it is! Wonderful talk and presentation! Another example to me of standing in our places! They were inspired to ask for you to give this talk. I especially liked where you told the YW they were not responsible for others choices and you gave the sexual abuse stats! Chieko would be cheering this. Sexual abuse was a big issue to her and I had the opportunity to hear her heart pesonally on that topic.

And wonderful to quote Pres. Hinckley’s talk on YW and education. His talk to the YW about that had great influence on both of my daughters who sometimes feel lonely since they are working moms. I recently sat in on a GD class in which the teacher kept praising stay at home moms and how she had been blessed by her own sacrifices to the point that others were also chiming in. I had heard through my daughter this was becoming a common theme in her ward and this particular class every Sunday, no matter what the lesson was. I turned to both daughters and told both of them to not let this bother them. I didn’t bother to whisper but wasn’t overly loud and actually didn’t care who might hear. Mentioning it once, I can see. Using your GD teacher status to promote a platform indicated a woman who must be struggling with her choices since she obviously was not having any respect for mothers who had made the decision with their husbands to be working moms. I need to get off of this vent now because I could go on and on. My daughter has really been struggling in this ward due to some of the stay at home moms who know not what they do.

    Thanks Tadpole for your example!

I very much enjoyed this talk. I particularly like how it challenged old assumptions in such a gentle, non-confrontational manner, with current supporting quotations – such as to do real good. I imagine some YW leaders and YW themselves thinking carefully about the concepts you are presenting and feeling the spirit burn within them. Thank you ever-so much for sharing of yourself with them…and with us.

I love how you pointed out the reality in comparison with the “ideal” and allowed that life often ends up quite differently than we think it will as young people.

Today, Elder Holland spoke in our stake and in pronouncing a blessing on the members of our stake, he referred to the fact that our realities were not how we imagined they would be as laurels or teachers. It was a genuine, earthy recognition that life usually falls well outside the bounds of the images and dreams we project for ourselves when young but that there is joy, peace, healing, and happiness to be found in our lives regardless of our where the path leads.

Both talks, yours and his, touched me today.

    Thank you.

That’s a great talk to the YW. For me, the most compelling talks right now are those that seek to counter some of the cultural values we hold that are not wholly positive. I did that last week and it was a wonderful experience for me. I plan to give this talk to my daughter who is buying into the LDS culture. I see your talk as a very forthright but acceptable talk that can help inoculate her against some of the tunnel vision we experience in the Church. Great job!!!
