GuestTobin sent me a PM, which is very problematic. He feels Ray is overstepping bounds as a moderator when he doesn’t see he is doing anything wrong.
He wrote:
Quote:I have shown my wife and colleagues some of these threads and responses by him and they have been astonished by Ray’s overreaction and abuse of his position. As a result they have encouraged me to not participate in the forum any longer.
So, I will instead refrain from posting here and will read some of the topics if they interest me. If I think someone has something interesting to say, I’ll PM them so we can reasonably discuss things without Ray interfering as well.
I have serious concerns that if he just goes around the posting forum by using PMs to members, he’ll keep saying the things he is saying, and worse if he isn’t moderated.
I responded already with several examples of where he has violated our rules of etiquette, and told him:
Quote:If you really can’t see the point we’re making, it may very well be that the moderators feel you don’t fit in with our mission and we just block you. I would not feel comfortable with you sending PM messages against our sites rules of etiquette to members of the site, because we would not be able to moderate those messages. There are other forums you can use to do that if you wish.
You can read what our moderator role is as we’ve established it, and I believe Ray is responsibly carrying out this role.

]http://forum.staylds.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=655 My suggestion is we wait for him to reply to my direct message of where his messages crossed the line, and see if he gets it or not. If he doesn’t, I suggest we block him and look for if he tries to re-register under a new name.
I also suggest we send a PM to some of the regulars (SD, cwald, Cadence, On Own Now, and maybe DarkJedi or others), to warn against Tobin PMing them, and that we are trying to keep him from trolling.
What do you all say we do about him?

GuestHe has replied, and no surprise, he doesn’t get it. Just replied “I have used the words I believe and people know it is my opinion. Also, I don’t see why calling the church leaders delusional is offensive.” I don’t know if he will keep posting or not.
What do you all think about sending PM to those that he might PM? Or should we take action?

GuestI say ban him ASAP. He has been a serious concern since he started, and he just doesn’t get it. I see nothing but problems if he continues, especially since he is a one comment wonder. (I have met the aliens, and they will visit you, also, if you want it badly enough.) Will you send the message to the regulars you mentioned? It won’t surprise cwald, since he warned us about Tobin when he first registered. “Sociopath” is the word he used.
If nobody objects, I don’t mind banning him immediately – but I think it might be better if someone else does it, just so we can say honestly that I wasn’t the one who did it.

GuestI will take care of it. October 1, 2013 at 8:28 pm #273100Anonymous
GuestHe sent an email to the admin address questioning the decision and crying foul. I responded with my usual blunt but diplomatic boilerplate answer. We aren’t a free-for-all public forum and never have been.
Hi Tobin,
The moderators, collectively, decided you were not a good fit for the style of the community. StayLDS.com is managed more along the lines of a magazine with editors making judgement calls on content.
Sorry, but that’s how it played out. There are other Mormon-themed internet forums with less restrictions that might be a better outlet for you.
Best Regards,
Brian (site admin)

GuestApparently, we will be hearing from his crack team of intellectual property lawyers from the law firm: Dewey, Trollem & Howe, LLP.
I appreciate the response. Since I am still in the dark as to which, or any rules I violated and it seems to be because of purely a personal dislike of one or more moderators of my views, I would appreciate it if my intro were removed from your site. I do not wish to be associated in any way with this site as a result of this kind of behavior and hope you will agree to my request. If not, I may consider legal remedies to force it be removed.

GuestI edited his initial intro post to say “[removed by request of the user].” He has 52 posts though. I don’t want to set a precedent of trying to untangle the database for disgruntled users.
If I ever get around to it, I might add some clarifying text to the user agreement page on the registration stating explicitly that anything posted to our forums becomes the property the site. Users currently agree we can do pretty much anything to their posts we want (in the interests of moderating our content).

GuestI hate to say it, but he really is a nutcase. October 1, 2013 at 10:33 pm #273081Anonymous
GuestYou said it Ray. Brian…I noticed in the ACP there is in the Basic Tools section an option to “Move all posts” for that user.
Never tried it, and don’t know what it does or how it impacts threads. But I wondered if that was an option??

GuestIt would move all his posts to some other place, and would leave all these holes in the conversations. I’m not too worried removing his other stuff. He sent me another email thanking me for removing his intro post, and claimed he wouldn’t bother me anymore. -
