GuestI’m glad to see a better balance than in the past few decades. 9-6 is as close to balanced as it can be without being 8-7. Frankly, I wish they all would unaffiliate officially, but there is the matter of the Utah primary system. You have to be registered as a Republican in Utah to vote in their primary but don’t have to be registered as a Democrat to vote in theirs. I think Pres. Uchtodorf is a great example of that, since I can’t imagine he is a hardcore Republican. He is unaffiliated as a rule but registered to vote in the Republican primary – and then immediately went back to unaffiliated.
The numbers will surprise some people, but it doesn’t surprise me.

GuestI found it very hopeful. I also liked that only 4 of them voted in the mid-term election. That makes them really human to me. I need that reassurance. December 8, 2014 at 2:23 am #292650Anonymous
GuestI would have rather seen how they voted (recently, or in the past), not their registration status. But that is likely protected information…For me, the article is somewhat ambiguous, although it does show tendencies toward Republicanism. December 8, 2014 at 4:08 am #292651Anonymous
GuestI don’t want to know how they vote, in any election – mostly because I don’t want any members to be influenced by how they vote. December 8, 2014 at 5:40 pm #292652Anonymous
GuestI thought the Bennett quote was interesting, that he doesn’t think members are influenced by how church leaders vote. It’s an interesting question, really, but I suspect the ones who are influenced by what leaders think would tend to be those who are conservative anyway (and according to Haidt weigh decisions more on authority).
