GuestToday my DH, FIL and I went to visit Independence, MO. We visited the LDS visitor center, The Community of Christ Temple, and The Church of Christ church/information center. After taking each tour and talking with the guides all I could come up with was … Each one of these branches have many similarities and it is difficult to try and understand or know when/where/why .. each went “wrong” according to the next. Each church proclaimed truth. I just can’t wrap my head around caring about who has more truth than who anymore. The trip was an eye opener to say the least! Very interesting .. GuestI was there last week. I was driving down a road and saw a “Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”. That was a first for me. October 12, 2010 at 3:09 am #235838Anonymous
GuestI didn’t even see that one .. Cool! I thought it was really interesting ….. I think the guide for The Church of Christ might have thrown FIL and maybe DH for a loop. They were near speechless

GuestI have been there too. Did you ever go to the lIBERTY jail tour and play. That was very interesting. Anything that is praiseworthy or of good report is from God I believe. October 12, 2010 at 2:42 pm #235840Anonymous
GuestWe probably should have gone to Liberty Jail too … But no one felt like going to another visitor center. Also no one seemed impressed b/c DH said it was a replica. We got lunch instead

GuestI think the Community of Christ’s fault is its tendency towards Anglican-style vagueness and prevarication. (I seem to be laying into other denominations a lot just now – not my usual self) I think our lot’s problem is overhomogenization. It results in sterility.

GuestI definitely felt puzzled by The Community of Christ Church. I like what they do – Focus on world Peace. That is cool. I don’t think the BOM is a literal history nor do I believe there were gold plates, etc. So when it comes to the basic history, just like the LDS Church, I find I don’t believe in it. I felt most comfortable with The Church of Christ and what they believed. Only b/c they flat out believe that J.S. spoke revelations of men and don’t seem afraid to tell people that, like for example polygamy. Yet they also believe the BOM is a literal history. They seem very cut and dry about what they believe. If it’s not in the BOM or The New Testament …. it isn’t important. The two works hold “all truth”
. So overall I don’t agree with much of anything that was “historically divine” for any group .. But I did find myself drifting towards thinking that The Church of Christ was more open in certain ways..but definitely not all!
I really liked how the guide at the LDS center said of the other groups that “We hold the same basic beliefs” .. “share the land”. I’ve asked DH in the past if he thought the other groups were Mormon or at least related to the LDS Church and he would say no. I think this showed him that they actually all have the same exact history … and just went their seperate ways at different times. The LDS guide said that the correct group would eventually get all the land … The LDS Church .. I didn’t really like that. But it could honestly happen. The Church of Christ is very small and the LDS Church is huge in comparison. I guess time will tell!
