This hit me today that the church is as true as a well tuned bicycle wheel. It is as true as it is designed to be – in harmony with itself for a specific purpose. That does not mean you cannot steer it in a “wrong” direction. It also does not mean that it will return truth for everything imposed upon it. If we paste random answers to the rim of a true wheel, and ask it questions as we spin it to reveal our fortunes – we are likely to be dissappointed.

If, however, we climb atop the wheel and steer it in a meaningful direction, I think we’ll be amazed at how far it will take us.

    I really like this, Orson.

Where the bike takes us largely is up to us – although its course can be influenced by the unrighteous dominion of others.

I believe the church is a bicycle wheel. It may not be true. In fact, it may be the wobbliest wheel you ever tried to ride. But it is still a bicycle wheel, and you can ride amazing places using it. I’m not an expert enough to know how to true a bicycle wheel, but I can ride on the wheel I have beneath me!

I’ve ridden on wheels that I’m sure were more true. It was nice. But the one I’m on will do for my daily riding.

Good analogy Orson. I will use it.

Sambee…some people have an aweful lot of confidence in the wheel they ride on…and put their life in its capabilities, don’t they?

Yep, that guy (in the picture) has ridden a unicycle over the Himalayas and several other mountain ranges…
