In my neck of the woods, I don’t know if I have heard “Only use the KJV”. I think it is a lack of ever looking around elsewhere that keeps everyone using the KJV. They don’t want the expense of buying yet another bible. And maybe they don’t understand that they might actually understand it a bit more if they did read an alternative. But as for now, they don’t want to go to another translation because that one might have “man’s interpretation”. So instead they stick with KJV and have to get supplementary materials (from other men/women I might add) to be able to understand it. Sounds rather filtered either way.

I once quoted the NIV in an Elders Quorum meeting I was teaching a number of years back. You would have thought I was the worst heretic in the world from the reaction. Got all the way up to the Bishop within 10 minutes after class.

Bishop was cool, he said he often uses other versions for his own study, but to try to use the KJV when teaching.
