I’m curious if anyone knows anything about these folks or where they went. I happened upon

this site (which appears to be dead, more or less) and was pleased (and amused) at the little bit I read. Where do internet communities like this disappear to?

I would think the people disburse to other active sites and blogs.

Internet communities take at least a minimum core of people and effort to keep them running and active. If nothing else, someone has to pay for server space and keep things running in the background. At a site like ours, we have very active moderators who donate their time to keep things running (approving new users, taking care of problems, etc.)

I would guess the one you referenced just fizzled out. Maybe whoever hosted the forum got too busy and just couldn’t run it anymore. It happens. Like others said, people just find other places to participate at that point.

I was just wondering if any of them found their way here (via Starbucks), since the tone and character of the discussion seemed very similar.

I’ve heard of this site referenced in some of the earliest Mormon Stories podcast. As well as the Church is not True Podcast (which is a dead inactive podcast….)

This just looked like a site for people to poke fun at the church and vent to some extent.

The thing of it is there are already some more well established forum sites that already served those purposes.

When Someone only needs to vent they will only do it for a small time and then lose interest as they move on. âž¡

Which is healthy. It’s OK to feel anger and go through that gambit of emotions. At some point though, it’s time to let go. Otherwise, anger just consumes our soul. I don’t mean in a heaven/hell metaphysical way, just that it is unhealthy to harbor negative emotions for too long.

So that is why I acknowledge the need for “rant” and “venting” sites. They serve a vital need. Many people need to let all that frustration and anger, the dismay and hurt, just let it all out.

I agree that there is a time and place for the ranting and venting.

I am just saying that there were already some more well established ranting sites.
