So, it’s akin to what the Ministry of Truth was doing in 1984 — rewriting history to align with current interests! But not for an evil empire. I get it!

Retroactive continuity is a nice euphimism for it!!!

Here is an example from Austin Powers. IN one of the later sequels, I guess they couldn’t get Elizabeth Hurley to come back as Austin Power’s love interest. So they indicated she was a Fem Bot — an agent of Dr. Evil, I believe, that wasn’t human. I think they even blew her up and killed her. This wrote her out of the current script as she was no longer available to serve the plot of the current script. Elizabeth Hurley was to Austin Powers what the Priesthood Ban is to the LDS church!

Sad that we have to do that as a divinely appointed organization. For me, the way to handle the past is to fess up that we made a mistake, make amends and then move on. All the faith training tends to create such massive rationalization of cognitively dissonant events that it doesn’t seem to matter much anyway!

Exactly! The priesthood ban was the LDS church’s loyal sidekick and girlfriend (eternal unchanging doctrine) that has since been reimagined as an evil Fem Bot and written out of the script. 😈
