GuestSometimes it depends on the relationship between the people sharing stories or taking feedback. People I know well and have respect for, even if they sound like they are bragging, I know them well enough to know they are humble and kind and don’t do it often, and it doesn’t seem like pride to me. Others I don’t know that well don’t have that trust from me. Same goes for if they are telling me something, and I’m more easily offended by people I don’t trust.

Maybe it depends if we feel threatened for a current, legitimate reason, or not. That would take some awareness both externally & internally.
I realize I get really annoyed by people who remind me of certain peoples’ ways, which negatively influenced me as a child.
Also, when I’m actively trying to forget my weaknesses, & somebody reminds me of them (in various ways) – it’s troubling (but sometimes needed).
When I see someone calling others names or putting another down personally (instead of what they say or actions) – &/or overreacting – I wonder what
theirproblem is. September 28, 2011 at 3:53 am #245929Anonymous
GuestGood points, Featherina. A lot of what we hear is filtered through our internal thoughts and feelings, which is why what bothers us is a reflection of us. If someone tells me I have green hair, it doesn’t bother me, because it seems silly to me. But the things that strike close to home are the things I’m most sensitive about.
