GuestMy ward often has the final speaker as a woman and the closing prayer. It’s definitely something some wards have just got some crazy old tradition about. May 12, 2014 at 1:25 am #284577Anonymous
GuestIt was a fluke, but we actually did have a female closing speaker today! It was a matter of lucky timing, because a young lady from our ward is leaving for her mission on Wednesday, and that’s the only circumstance under which a female can be the closing speaker. (Unfortunately, when these sisters return from their missions, they are usually relegated to middle speaker.) The Stripling Warriors tuned up twice – I forget who was complaining about those
On the bright side, the hymns were “For The Beauty Of The Earth” and “Teach Me To Walk In The Light,” neither of which I find offensively glurgy.
The chocolate was a bit of a disappointment – last year we got Ghiradelli squares; this year it was a plain Hershey’s bar. I’m such an ingrate

GuestWe went: youth, brother, Primary singing, sister. The topic and hymns had nothing to do with Mother’s Day or family, but they managed to work it in. May 12, 2014 at 1:50 am #284579Anonymous
GuestI forgot to mention that all four of our speakers mentioned the mothers is the stripling warriors. Haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GuestHmm, interesting. Seems like the strolling warriors was a theme this year. Haven’t seen it in previous years but this year in our ward too. Interesting enough the missionary speakers spoke about how mothers have a responsibility and unending unquestioning faith and I obedience above others. And that’s its river responsibility to instill the sane into their children, which they do better then others. The theme was once again on unquestioning obedience wrapped around how mothers forfill this most important commandment. Not exactly what I was hopping my wife would get to hear today but what can you do.
I would love to hear more actual Mother’s Day messages in other wards.
I would love to share them with my wife.
Ray do you remember the talk enough to share enough on it?

GuestI can ask the woman who spoke if she has a copy of the talk I can share. Missionaries should not be asked to talk on Mother’s Day. Period.

GuestJoni – I was the Stripling Warriors complainant. They seem to get dragged out in my ward every year. This year I attended my daughters young adult ward. I posted my experience because it was something out of this world. A new twist on those Warriors. I am glad to hear that they are making the rounds in other wards, too. I would hate to be a Warrior hog.

GuestI hate the stupid stripling warriors thing. It’s ironic because Mother’s Day mostly exists because of women (especially sufragettes) opposing war. The conventional thinking was that if women were given the vote, we wouldn’t have so many wars because women would not so willingly send their children off to kill other mothers’ children. The holiday recognizes mothers of sons killed in war. May 12, 2014 at 3:52 am #284584Anonymous

:wtf: If it’s possible Ray. If not no big deal. But thanks, I would appreciate it very much.

GuestHow about the ward choir singing “Praise to the Man”. Youth speaker 1- Abrahamic Covenant and 2- Priesthood. Woman speaker on the Proclamation and attack on the family with a touch of Stripling Warrior. Not a great Mother’s Day here but we actually have never had one that I could remember. No Primary kids singing was a bummer.
