Today we are sitting online hashing out a diatribe. I am the age of one of those American Geniuses who created this amazing online connection. As we text our friends, surf the web, and live connected we stand on the backs of others. We stand on astronauts, geek engineers with plastic pocket pen holders and slide rules, we stand in the shadows of garage-shop dreamers. Not everyone became wealthy but most did well – very well. Consider Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc. I don’t hear anyone begrudging their wealth or status. So is it all wealthy or a certain wealthy?
Every generation dreams. Just months before I was born someone suggested we fly to the moon. Now I really don’t know what moon travel gave us, but the life altering output from the effort is phenomenal. Velcro anyone?
I have millennials as kids. I am watching, listening and observing. I have mixed emotions about the various tides out there. Money has a place, it can do much good. If people had been more generous Mother Teresa and her nuns wouldn’t have had to spend hours sorting through garbage bins to find food. On the flip side I volunteer at a homeless shelter, the diversity of ambition is unique to watch. I don’t know everyone’s story, but some people are actually very content dwelling in a sub standard life. I myself don’t understand it. But it exists.
I believe it all goes back to our hearts.
