GuestI think it’s worth the read. I don’t understand meekness very well, I’ll be frank. October 16, 2013 at 4:01 am #275296Anonymous
GuestSome people are just wankers. October 16, 2013 at 4:55 am #275297Anonymous
GuestThe only thing I can think of is how I tell my kids to close the doors because I don’t want to pay to cool/heat the outdoors.

GuestIt was inside …between the lobby and chapel doors. Strange thing happened today too. Was standing in a circle at a business networking meeting and someone I didn’t know across from me in the circle takes out a camera, takes a picture of me as I stood there quietly, listening.
Then he shows the picture to the person to his left, and makes a comment and starts laughing. The person he showed it to (someone I know very well) looked a bit uncomfortable but mildly amused — maybe as to placate the guy who took the picture? I have no idea what the heck that was about. I had done the full inspection of myself before I left the house, and checked again when I returned, and everything was in place. My attire was appropriate. Totally confused.
I didn’t do anything about it as I am in a position of leadership in that context — wanted to stay out of the weeds.
Later, someone introduced me to him, he said “Hi” and then arrogantly walked away, so there was no conversation.
I have to confess, people can be jerks sometimes. It’s odd for this to happen twice in one week.
Anyway, I think I’ve dwelt on this enough…guess it shows that tactless people exist everywhere, inside and outside the church.

A charitable interpretation could be that it was a picture of someone next to you….or something behind you? Maybe a fruit basket in the background that looked like a hat the way you were positioned, who knows (I’m just imagining some absurdity that didn’t have anything to do with you, per se.)
Having said that, I could never confront a stranger who is doing or just did something obnoxious. But if it was me, I would have inquired,
“What’s up with the photo and why so funny?”And I have in similar instances many times….almost every time the explanation was not as I imagined. In other words, there was something going on unrelated to me or what I perceived. Whether it was truthful, I can’t say, but plausible and believable, yes. One of the few things I remember from Sociology 101 is that we often
wronglyperceive the way others perceive us. I’ve tried to remember that….sometimes it’s helpful, other times I’ll admit it’s difficult!

GuestAn opportunity came up for me to ask the trusted friend what had happened — he said that everyone was taking pictures of everyone at the event, and that he was messing around with his camera….so, your sociology course was dead on. It was nothing. Onward and upward!
