GuestJust saw this , stating that we are now more likely to die from opiod overdose than from a motor-vehicle crash. I know Utah has historically had a pretty bad record with this, and am not sure what the numbers are. But I remember hearing that over 2/3 of the overdose fatalities were caused by perscription drugs.articleI think that’s one of the bigger issues with drawing the line at legal vs illegal drugs. What makes a drug legal or illegal, sadly, isn’t about how much harm it can do. It’s about who has the money, what’s the most/least popular, and/or what demographic you want to discriminate against.

GuestThe USA is really bad with prescriptions. I don’t think healthcare and profiteering mix well, and it leads to situations where medication is pushed more as a product than a cure to something. (Medication probably helps staving off political, social and economic turmoil.) January 17, 2019 at 5:44 am #333793Anonymous
GuestIf we were to add to it – Portion Sizes. In America the bigger the better. Not good. Period. Arteries, colon, brain cells, not to mention intestines can’t handle it. January 19, 2019 at 8:44 pm #333794Anonymous
GuestAbsolutely nothing. Teach principles of good health and leave it at that. January 27, 2019 at 1:44 am #333795Anonymous

An underline to the phrase “not by commandment or constraint”.
Amen!

GuestIn reality, I wouldn’t add anything, but in practice, I do add one that I see lots of Mormons violate: sharing prescription medications. First, I think Mormons in general are too prone toward using medication for pain relief, etc. (where non-LDS people are probably just taking the edge off with a glass of wine), and secondly, within families, people seem to share them like a communal prescription. Back hurts? Take one of dad’s Lortabs! Have a migraine? Mom’s got some Valium you could borrow. January 28, 2019 at 12:08 pm #333797Anonymous

Yes, this is a very good point. A lot of people assume that because something is prescribed it is okay. Not only are some things misprescribed, but they are also addictive, modify your behavior (and not always in a good way) and that is before you get to the issue of sharing you mention.
US doctors have a reputation internationally of handing medication out like candy. And you have Elvis and Michael Jackson who both died partly as a result of Doctor Feelgoods.
