Haha. If 21st C, 3 hour block, temple attendance and Home teaching is it; if it’s the only way way and the narrow gate all of humanity must pass through, despite its amazing diversity, then yes, I’d also be a little underwhelmed.
But “Josephism” or “Uchtdorfism” is much bigger than that. That’s not me elevating them to deity status. That’s me looking back at the things they have said that extends our beliefs beyond the tent of being members on a roll and instead describe a perspective of the world and the eternities and deity to something exciting and expansive and inclusive. As such, I stay on the roll in the hope of bringing that version of “Mormonism” to other people’s attention. Like a missionary facing the other way. I also stay in because of all of the available inspired but man made faith traditions, this is the one I like best and that I fit in most comfortably.
If I found a better fit I would go there, trusting in the understanding of Deity of personalised curriculum. If I never do, I’ll stick with what works now. I believe Joseph and Uchtdorf’s expression of Mormonism fits that perspective.

GuestIm just saying it seems to me God has some explaining to do if Mormonism is the real deal. He would have to somehow justify a religion that caters to a fraction of the people who live currently or have ever lived. That seems odd. I would ask some questions. How come you let your leaders contradict themselves over the years and then expect me to somehow make sense of it all. And why all the misdirection with prayer everyone gets. That is how you told us to get answers yet everyone seems to understand you differently. You could have just shown up once in a while and told us straightforward what you really wanted. What is with all those scriptures? Sometimes they are helpful but the majority of them are gibberish to me. A nice pamphlet on effective living would have been better. I could go on but I think you get the picture.
So here I sit being told I screwed up and did not fully invest myself into Mormonism yet that brain you gave me told me all along it was foolish to do so. Just seems to me you could have come up with something better, simpler, and more effective. I could have I think. So send me off to that lower kingdom over there because that is where everyone who dared think on their own is going anyway. Probably the best place for me.

 I agree! And I like how you put it, Ray, especially about how God is far more loving than most have been led to believe.Judgement day is every day I judge/think. “The kingdom (realm/experience) of God is within you.”
Every day, I see how I’ve screwed up & I’m beginning to realize how I’ve beat myself up for things that God probably smiles at, as a loving parent or teacher smiles when a child freaks out when they goof up.
I like that image Featherina, and I agree that we judge/condemn ourselves while God would lift us from our own condemnation.
I view the end of progression/growth/learning as the beginning of damnation/hell so maybe I could adapt the idea of judgment at the end of progression to apply at a topic by topic level, and by no means suggests the topic “completion” is final and beyond revisiting.
I think you’re right, Orson. It really can be mind-boggling, when I think too much, but at the same time, thoughts are what cause e-motion (good or bad).
Truth is in perspective… & often one profound truth will still allow for an opposite profound truth.
IE: “Judge not lest ye be judged.”
“It is given you to judge good from evil.”
Moreover, there is always more perspectives no human being has even considered (God’s perspective).
Some things that may seem bad (ie free agency & the harmful choices associated) turn out to be good by allowing for growth & increased capacity to love.
