GuestI’m not seeing anything there at either “Main” or “Moderation Queue” – am I looking at the right place? June 30, 2015 at 9:41 pm #301770Anonymous
GuestI came back after running errands and 5 new names are in my inbox. Seeing as we are the hot new place do I just swing open the door – or follow Hawkgrrls’ lead and let Ray and Brian make the decisions? June 30, 2015 at 10:51 pm #301771Anonymous
GuestI generally have been letting Brian make that call. Any of us can do it, but I have been lazy – in that regard. I have NO problem with allowing people to participate who obviously are not spammers, but we ought to read the justifications they write and NOT approve anyone who obviously has an axe to grind. We will miss some of those and have to deal with the moderation issues, but that’s fine. I’d rather be a little too lenient upfront and deal with it later than overly restrictive upfront and miss the chance to help someone.

Guestnibbler wrote:Roadrunner shared a FP letter that is to be read to the members on either July 5th or 12th that is in relation to the SCOTUS ruling. The news essentially broke here and the thread was linked. I’m sure the thread was shared from site to site as many people participate on several forums.
Roadrunner’s post has had over 12,000 views. Wow.I’m guessing we’ll be getting some new traffic and we’ll need to keep an eye out as moderators what this will attract.

GuestI think we can all pony up and help. Here are some of the decisions I made so far today: APPROVED:
– I am an active member in my ward. I have a testimony of the gospel and
know that this is where I am to be, but I do not understand some decisions
by our leadership. I am interested in a dialogue with others about some of
these current issues.
– I am a gay member who lives the principles and is active in church. Maybe
this is a good website for me? Not sure yet, but it looks like it.
– I am active LDS and have read the board for 2 years. As a student of many
controversial aspects of the church I believe I can make a positive
contribution to the board. I work hard to respect those who have doubts
about the church.
– Ann7704: I am LDS and also Transgender. This has been very difficult for me to
reconcile this with being LDS. After many years of struggle, I believe I
have made peace with God. I hope to help others who have difficultly
feeling like they belong in the church.
NOT APPROVED:
– I dont believe in the book of mormon
– Need a place to discuss things anonymously. (Sent a PM asking for more information)

GuestOff topic slightly, but just to repeat what I’ve said previously in another private thread or two – before we added you new moderators, I think: I edit comments quite regularly if they have obvious, distracting or hard-to-understand grammatical, spelling, punctuation, formatting, etc. mistakes. That is true especially for comments from phones. Sometimes, they can be alarmingly difficult to read. (not often, but sometimes) I don’t want lurkers to leave or not read someone’s contributions just because they can’t understand important things in the comments or posts.
I also have created quote blocks in some comments from new participants to make them much easier to read, while sending a PM to explain what I am doing and giving instructions about how to do it themselves.
If any of you are in the control panel areas where you can see moderator activity, that is what the vast majority of my examples are.

“I don’t believe in the book of mormon” is a small and could be very general bit of information. “…but I want to stay in the church” ??
Was clarification sought on that one too?
