I have made some comments recently on a thread in the Mormon Apologetic & Discussion Board that might have interest to some on this board. It certainly took an interesting divergent course into mysticism…

Fear not, and venture forth! http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php?showtopic=41310&st=40&start=40” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php?showtopic=41310&st=40&start=40

If it’s not your cup o’ tea, er… Pero, then that’s fine, just thought it might spark some comments.

    I loved this explanation.

    Quote:

Let’s say an angel of God appeared to you, offering one of two choices: (1) You can go to the temple and there receive the second anointing, as referred to in the endowment. In that ordinance, you will be ‘sealed up unto eternal life’ and have your calling and election made sure. OR (2) You will be visited by Jesus Christ in the flesh, will see His face, embrace Him and feel the marks in his hands, feet, wrists and side. You will have a conversation.

Which of these would you choose?

The mystic will choose (2) every time. It’s all about a personal relationship with God. It’s not so much about the promises or assurances of institutions, though I would never discount those. They have had a great positive effect in my life. It’s just that the exoteric ordinance is never sufficient without the esoteric fulfillment of that ordinance.

I skimmed through the discussion. I had the overall impression that you are on a whole different plane of existence than the other people in that thread. They are still trying to figure out how BY fits into their Fowler Stage 3 “story that encompasses all their stories.”

I am of the opinion lately that God is all the things people describe Him/Her/They. He is a spirit, light, love, physical, local, non-local, everywhere and nowhere. He is incomprehenisble, and we can become one with Him and know all things.

Yes. Kinda hard to put into a little theological ‘box’.
