GuestWelcome back Hawkgirl. I think you add a valuable component to StayLDS. I enjoy reading your opinions and appreciate your perspective. April 1, 2011 at 8:43 am #240369Anonymous
GuestAw, shucks! And FWIW, I love science, too, so maybe your stereotypes hold true. Actually, with a few exceptions, I always imagine people on chat forums to be women until proven otherwise. And yes, the move was a big big move, and I’m still trying to get my life back to normal! But this forum has made the cut as my life has become much busier. Good thing is that from 15 hours time difference, I’m usually asleep when you are all awake and vice-versa, so you’re unlikely to catch me online, but I’ll be checking in on interesting stuff here.

Guesthawkgrrl, one of your posts is what I had in mind. Your one on nature was superb. April 14, 2011 at 12:40 am #240371Anonymous
GuestI’m a woman! (Just kind of “inactive” when it comes to this forum.) I actually spend most of my time posting on apologetics forums, you know… smiting the wicked who fight against Zion. A run-in with a fellow LDS on one of those sites made me decide to come back here and spend a little bit more time here from now on. It’s hard to leave the place “where everybody knows your name” and start posting regularly on a forum where you’re kind of a stranger. But here I am. April 14, 2011 at 1:27 am #240372Anonymous
GuestKatzpur, do I know you from the MAD (now MDD) board? April 14, 2011 at 4:20 am #240373Anonymous

That’s the FAIR-sponsored board, right? You could know me from there, as I do post there occasionally. I frequent two other forums much more often, though. (Am I allowed to post links to them?)April 14, 2011 at 12:38 pm #240374Anonymous

I don’t know about links? What are their names?

GuestThe only links that we don’t allow are those to sites that are openly and truly anti-Mormon. We also can’t allow lists of multiple links – since it’s next to impossible to monitor them in any reasonable way.
We aren’t concerned at all about our regular participants posting such links, but we have to have a general rule we follow for something like that.

Okay, well the forums where I spend most of my time are andhttp://www.religiousforums.comhttp://www.religiousforums.com” class=”bbcode_url”> . I’ve posted on Religious Forums for six years now and have over 20,000 posts there. I’ve been on City-Data for a couple of years and have about 3,000 posts there. They’re both excellent forums and I’ve been reasonably well-received on both of them. I think I’ve actually been able to make a difference in how people view us and get rid of some of the misconceptions. It can be frustrating, though, and when one holier-than-thou member of the Church let me have it a couple of weeks back, I decided to come over here and lick my wounds for awhile. I’m an active, believing member of the Church. I’m just… well, a bit left of center with respect to certain church policies and practices.http://www.city-data.com/forum/christianity/http://www.city-data.com/forum/christianity/” class=”bbcode_url”> 😳 April 15, 2011 at 1:57 pm #240376Anonymous

I had a similar encounter with a “TBM” (for want of a better term) elsewhere. I chastized him/her for being unChristian, since most of her/his comments about “why can’t people leave and leave the church alone” etc were verging on bigoted, and would actually ALIENATE most investigators and people on the fringes.

GuestKatzpur and Sam, I’ve had the same experience. I know it’s not my place to police other people’s behaviors but when I’m trying so hard to reach out to others with love and along comes another LDS who prefers to push people out of the chapel, all while I’m trying to help them feel comfortable staying…. well, it’s frustrating.

GuestAgreed. I’d better point out though, that when I said “elsewhere”, I meant on the Internet. I haven’t encountered this nonsense in person, thankfully. -
