GuestSomething to think about, I wonder what you all think about it: Salvation is not something to obtain…
Salvation is something to be experienced.
The atonement is not so much an event that happened, but a process for all of us.

GuestDJ – in a weird way it does, because depending on who we rest our answers with – we find ourselves in conflict with our own religious brothers and sisters. I think that is one of the cruxes the conflict of the summer. Maybe it shouldn’t matter whose church it is? But it looks and sounds to me like it does. The divisions in the answer to this question causes us to hurt each other deeply.
I am privately processing my new understanding. In my discovery I find myself defensive. This response was long and full of agitation. I’ve edited it.
DJ – I am grateful for your questions and wonderments. Feel free to keep asking and explaining. As my emotions are raw and defensive, I will excuse myself from the conversation. I know I am the ultimate selector of who my authority figure is – and that is all anyone can do.
I guess this summer’s pain is deeper than I want it to be. I look around our board and know 2 or 3 voices who have retreated or gone silent. There is a strange silence in the Bloggernacle as it tries to process the summer events and pain. There are subtly defensive statements made in church meetings and member conversations, all based on Whose Church each person thinks this is. My question then turns to that – Whose Church Is It Anyway – and is there a healing place to anchor.
Each must decide for himself. I wanted an easy answer for everyone. There may not be one.

I’m pretty sure you’ve read this previously, mom3 – but, just in case, and for the new participants:
