It’s all about have developing rules & keeping rules. He (or she) that observes & keeps the most rules wins.

I think it’s a holdover from the McConkie era, nothing more.

I still drink caffeinated soda but have cut it down considerably. I think caffeine is overused in our society and is basically a mean to burn employees into the ground.

For some, it’s a way to be able to concentrate on things. It’s not always a matter of overworking. I use caffeine when I forget to take my medication for ADHD. There have been times where I forgot to take my meds in the morning and the lack of caffeine on campus screwed up a good chunk of my day.

Overused or not, caffeine is not in the WoW.

I sometimes drink caffeinated soda as does my much more orthodox wife. Both of us go long stretches without caffeine, but sometimes I just need a boost – after a night when I didn’t sleep well, etc. I agree with ydeve, some it does help some people concentrate and for some I think it brings a bit of euphoria. It is entirely possible to be addicted to caffeine, but there are far worse things to be addicted to.

Our society is run by the rich for the rich. The British when they set up their empire got their workers to drink tea – lots of it – tea went one way out of India, sugar (more energy) came in another from the Caribbean and manufactured goods were sent in return to the colonies. It kept imperial trade going and workers working. (The British tried the tea thing in the 13 Colonies. It went belly up during the revolution and American bosses encouraged the use of coffee instead because it was not British).

Likewise you have all these coffee shops open early in the morning and at lunch to ensure office workers keep working during day, and have little energy during evening because it has been burnt out of them.

But I do see Starbucks just as busy on the weekends as during the weekdays.

More and more people work weekends and they’re hooked on the stuff. Indy coffee chains are better imho.

It is possible the coffee and tea thing held over from some types of abuses in the 1700s led to religious aversion in the early 1800s, until codified in the 1900s … and in the 2000s it just doesn’t really apply that much or stand for what it used to stand for to people…especially when…

I am for the decriminalisation of cannabis but it is not what people think it is. Apart from all the tax revenue to be made, it is also a very good way of shutting up subversives – kind of the opposite of caffeine. All the political activists I have known who smoke it get little done and have the puff taken out of them.

So such a thing is the curse of employers and the friend of the rulers.

I bet they had to do something to help the student body get through the torture of watching their football games.
