GuestDISCLAIMER: done satirically! I have discovered why there are fewer visions, dreams, and angelic visitations amongst the modern prophets and apostles!

I hope that wasn’t too irreverent. All in good humor right?

GuestWhile in southern Utah to speak at a stake conference, he’d ditched his traveling companion and headed off to a local restaurant for lunch. He was eating – a cup of coffee at the ready – when his companion caught up with him. Said his horrified and self-righteous companion: “Why Brother Kimball, I’d rather commit adultery than drink a cup of coffee.”
To which, J. Golden replied: “Who the h*ll wouldn’t.”

GuestCaffeine, nothing. Alcohol and opium will create some mighty powerful visions! July 18, 2009 at 12:59 am #218785Anonymous
GuestI was thinking more along the lines of peyote if you want visions. Guess it depends on what kind of visions you’re seeking, eh? (HiJolley- thanks for the J.Golden quote…always good to hear those every once in a while!)

GuestI am currently reading David O McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism, and the first chapter has a great story: Quote:During intermission at a theatrical presentation, his host offered to get refreshements: “His hearing wasn’t very good, and I got right down in front of him and I said, ‘President McKay, what would you like to drink? All of our cups say Coca Cola on them because of our arrangement with Coca Cola Bottling, but we have root beer and we have orange and we have Seven-Up. What would you like to drink?’ And he said, ‘I don’t care what it says
onthe cup, as long as there is a Coke inthe cup.'” McKay’s point was simple and refreshing: Don’t get hung up on the letter of the law to the point where you squeeze all of the spirit out of life. I don’t think early church leaders had visions because they had caffeine. I think they were closer to the source of when miraculous teachings were being brought to light that necessitated the medium. If the Lord can work in simpler ways with modern prophets, than so be it. Although I don’t think we really know if visions are less common place now or not.
