Write Your Own Autobiograhpy

I just saw this quote and copied into our useful quotes thread, but I also want to post it as a separate thread here in the Support section:

We call this building our own faith / testimony. There is a time for leaning on the testimonies of others, but that is more of what Paul meant when he said:

He ends that narrative by saying:

But when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Hawkgrrrl once said we need to become adults of God, and picking up the pen (even if we have to take it away from someone else who really does have our best interest at heart) and writing our own life story is a key component of becoming a spiritual adult.

So, we need to slow down, ponder our own new light and write a story that represents that for which we personally hope – not just a non-fictional narrative of our past but also a fantasy, if you will, of our desired future. Dreams don’t always come true, and that hurts sometimes, but life without them is less glorious and inspiring.

That’s what I have done. It takes a number of qualities

1) Abandoning fear or authority

2) Sometimes, acting in ways that authority disagrees with == courage.

3) Being truly honest about your personal motives; not rationalizing. If you expect truth from the church, then you have to demand it from yourself.

4) Willingness to fail, and in the process, ignore the noise that comes with it from the people disadvantaged by your pursuit of dreams. Church members will chastise you, lecture you, and place a low value on you, as you pursue your dream. Pay no attention to this. You will fail in the church as well, or out of it, in whatever you pursue, and there will always be noise.

That is profound. I write as a hobby and it’s hard work. Two sides of your brain fight all the time. The creator and the editor. For most people the editor is louder, invasive and can easily destroy the creator. Looking at my life story I see that happen, too. Too much and too many editors.
